Is it permissible for a bride to have bridesmaids in Islam, and is this practice religious or cultural?

It is permissible for the bride to employ a bridesmaid or a maid to adorn her, entertain her, or serve her for a known wage. This practice was widespread in the past and continues to be so, and it is legally permissible. Jurists have explicitly stated that if it is customary for a woman to be served, then the husband must provide her with a servant, based on the Almighty's saying: "And live with them honorably," and because it is a continuous need. The servant must be someone who is permitted to see the wife, such as a woman or a mahram. The presence of a bridesmaid or a maid is considered one of the customs that vary with different societies, and necessity may call for it.
