How can one atone for sins and consistently perform prayers after a period of abandoning them, with a sincere intention to adhere to acts of obedience?

Prayer is a great pillar of Islam, and abandoning it permanently is a heinous sin and one of the major transgressions. One must repent to Allah and diligently perform prayers, making up all missed obligatory prayers since puberty. One must also repent from all sins and transgressions. To maintain righteousness, it is advisable to associate with the righteous, attend gatherings of knowledge, and listen to admonitions.
