What is the way to continue praying and abandon forbidden acts after a period of relapse and distance from acts of obedience?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Whoever abandons prayer and commits evil deeds must repent sincerely and immediately, for abandoning prayer is worse than adultery and theft, and some scholars even consider it an act of disbelief. Do not be deceived by Allah's forbearance; it may be an opportunity for repentance, and death can come suddenly. If you feel shame before people, then Allah is more deserving of your shame, for He is aware of all your deeds.

Consider the consequences of these actions in the Hereafter, for dying in such a state is a great danger. Remember the Fire and what Allah has prepared for its inhabitants. Reflect upon Allah's blessings upon you, for disobedience removes blessings and wipes outbaraqah (divine blessing), so beware of their disappearance. Begin to sincerely change yourself by supplicating to Allah to guide you, by striving to obey Him, by keeping company with righteous women, and by being mindful of Allah in private and in public. For what is with Allah, such as sustenance and a righteous spouse, can only be attained through obedience to Him, in affirmation of His saying, the Most High: "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect."
