Why didn't the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, explain the matter of the disconnected letters at the beginning of the surahs, and is it conceivable that the Companions did not ask him about them?

There is no explicit text regarding the reason why the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not interpret the opening letters of the Surahs. Perhaps his interpretation of the Qur’an focused on the practical aspect. As for the Companions, they did not ask about them because a group of them considered them among the secrets of the Qur’an, the knowledge of which God alone possesses. This has been narrated from the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and Imam Al-Qurtubi and Ibn Hazm adopted this view. It is also probable that they did not ask about them due to the clarity of their intended meaning, which was to challenge the Arabs, as Ibn Ashour opined. He believed that they were presented in the manner of spelling to rebuke the polytheists and draw their attention to the fact that the Qur’an is composed of the letters of their own speech. This view supports the idea that spelling is evident in this purpose.
