Does a garment become pure if it is splashed with wash water splattered from an impure garment?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The jurists differed on the ruling concerning wash-water (water separated from washing an impure garment):

If it changes due to impurity: It is impure by consensus, and the spot it touches is purified by washing. If it does not change: Malikis: It is pure absolutely. Shafi'is and Hanbalis: If it is two qullas or more, it is pure. If it is less than two qullas: Shafi'is: Its ruling is the same as the place from which it separated (if it was impure, then it is impure; if it was pure, then it is pure but not purifying). Hanbalis: What separates before the seventh wash is impure, and what separates after it is pure. The preponderant opinion: The ruling of the wash-water is the same as the place from which it separated.
