Is it permissible to give zakat to the needy in the form of services provided to them instead of money?

It is not permissible to suffice with working for the poor person instead of paying zakat to him, as the scholars have prohibited the offsetting of a debt owed by the poor person to the zakat payer against his share of zakat. However, there is no impediment to working for the poor person for wages equal to or exceeding the amount of zakat, and then receiving it from him as payment for the work.
