The husband is obligated to provide for his wife reasonably, but he is not required to give her a personal allowance. It is not permissible for the wife to take her husband's money without his permission, nor is it permissible for her to leave his house without necessity or without his permission. Otherwise, she is considered rebellious (nashiz), her right to maintenance is forfeited, and she incurs sin. If the wife persists in taking from his money and leaving without his permission, she is rebellious (nashiz), and means of reconciliation can be pursued with her. If these do not succeed, then divorce is the last resort.
