Borrowing with interest is one of the major sins and is not permissible except in cases of extreme necessity, such as fear of perishing. Therefore, if the loan the mother needs is interest-based, she is not allowed to take it to pay off her debt unless delaying the debt payment leads to great harm, such as her imprisonment, and she has no other way to pay except by borrowing with interest. In such a case, she is permitted to borrow only the amount of that debt.
