How sound is the Hadith: "Do not revile my Companions, for my Companions embraced Islam fearing Allah, while people embraced Islam fearing the sword"?

The aforementioned Hadith, "Do not curse time," has not been found with this wording in the books of Sunnah. It has appeared in some interpretations (such as Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim, Al-Qurtubi, and Al-Tha'labi) without a chain of narration or attribution. The authentic and established Hadith is: "Do not curse my Companions, for if one of you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, it would not reach the measure of one of them, nor half of it."
