Is borrowing gold to be returned weight for weight considered usury (riba)?

Multiple prophetic texts have been transmitted regarding the categories of usury (riba), among them the of 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit, may Allah be pleased with him. Lending (qard) is permissible by the consensus of Muslims, whether concerning usurious wealth or otherwise. It is a contract of donation, aid, and benevolence, not a contract of sale or exchange. Therefore, immediate possession (al-taqabud al-fawri) is not a condition for it, as it is a condition in usurious sales. If the condition of immediate possession were applied to lending, lending would cease to exist for all usurious wealth.
