Does my angering my husband diminish the reward for my fasting?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The marital relationship should be based on affection, mercy, and good companionship. Each party should strive to please the other and avoid harming them. Even excessive prayer and fasting are prohibited if they lead to neglecting the rights of the family. The fasting person is commanded to have good character, and if they are cursed or fought, they should not retaliate in kind but rather say, "Indeed, I am fasting." Fasting requires abandoning idle talk and obscenity. And whoever does not abandon false speech and acting upon it and ignorance, Allah has no need for him to abstain from his food and drink. Angering the husband or falling short in his rights, especially if it is due to the wife refusing his bed, diminishes the reward of fasting or removes it, unless the husband's anger is without just cause.
