Are pictures of animate beings that have no head also forbidden?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Imperfect images of animate beings, where the imperfection prevents the continuation of life, are not included in the prohibited images. This is based on the saying of Ibn Abbas: "If the head is cut off, there is no image," and the saying of Ibn Qudamah: "If a part is cut off from it such that the animal cannot survive after its removal... it does not fall under the prohibition." Accordingly, there is no harm in a body without a head or a head without a body.
