What is the ruling on buying children's toys that are in the form of dolls and images, such as cats and dogs, and what is the ruling on placing decorations in children's rooms that contain images such as Mickey Mouse and cartoon characters?

The ruling on dolls that children play with was provided in Fatwa No. 3643. However, the ruling on placing decorations that contain pictures differs from the ruling on dolls, because the permissibility of dolls is a concession due to the needs of children, and concessions are not to be extended beyond their specific context. Scholars have explicitly stated the impermissibility of engraving images on walls and similar surfaces, and placing these pictures might suggest their veneration, or children might become attached to the figures in these pictures and imitate them, which entails religious prohibitions. Therefore, it is forbidden to place these decorations and to keep them once placed, and one must promptly remove any that are already present.
