What is the ruling on raising the hands for supplication after the Imam says: "Samia Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)," and the supplication: "Rabbana wa lakal hamdu hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubarakan feeh (Our Lord, to You be all praise, abundant, good, and blessed praise)... etc."?

It is part of the Sunnah to raise the hands when rising from rukoo' (bowing), as Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) doing so, saying: "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears those who praise Him)," and then saying: "Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (Our Lord, to You be all praise)." As for raising the hands for du'a (supplication), it is not done except in Qunut supplication, according to the more preponderant view, which is the madhhab of the Hanbalis, Shafi'is, and Hanafis.
