A deviation of 45 degrees from the exact Kaaba direction does not place the qiblah entirely to the right or left of the worshiper; rather, it is a slight inclination that is pardoned by many jurists, especially for those who are not residents of Mecca. Dr. Salih Da'keek mentioned that the preferred view regarding the permissible degree of deviation is the direction that divides the four cardinal points, so that every 45 degrees represents a direction. This is the choice of a group of contemporary scholars. Ibn Abd al-Barr affirmed that a slight, non-excessive deviation is pardoned, citing the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "What is between the East and the West is a qiblah." It was narrated from Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal that "What is between the East and the West is a qiblah" applies to all countries except Mecca, where precision is required, and that praying within this range is permissible, though it is recommended to aim for the middle.
