Is it incumbent upon a woman whose husband died after she had filed a lawsuit for divorce against him and before the legitimate ruling of divorce was issued, to observe the 'iddah, and what is the manner and duration of this 'iddah, and is she obligated to wear a specific color?

If the wife requests a divorce from the court and the husband dies before the judgment is issued, the wife is considered still under his marital bond, and she must observe the iddah (waiting period) of death (four months and ten days).

However, if the husband had actually divorced her before his death, the determining factor is the date of the divorce: If she had already completed her iddah of divorce, then the iddah of death is not obligatory for her. If she was still in her iddah of divorce, then she must observe the iddah of a woman whose husband has died.

It is preferable to consult the Sharia courts to rule on these matters. There is no specific color required for the attire of a woman observing iddah; rather, she is prohibited from wearing adornments and beautifying herself.
