Is it permissible for the husband's mother to ask him to divorce his wife, or to stop spending on her, or to demand that she pay for a gift, and is the husband obligated to obey her in this, given her mistreatment of his wife and her discrimination in giving between her children?

It is recommended to be patient with the harm from the husband's family and to treat them kindly, because Allah Almighty increases one in might and elevation, and there is always a supporter from Allah with those who are patient. It is advised to try to find out the reason for the animosity and address it, and to repel evil with good. The husband's family is not permitted to curse, and the husband should advise his mother gently and prevent her from injustice, as this is not an act of disobedience. The mother is not permitted to demand that her son separate from his wife or pay for gifts, and he should appease her. It is also recommended to ask the husband for separate housing if that is the cause of the harm. As for the mother's lack of fairness in giving gifts among her children, it is not permissible unless there is a valid reason.
