Is there an authentic Hadith stating that the Prophet replied to a man who greeted him with the pre-Islamic greeting "An'im Sabahhan" (May you have a pleasant morning) by saying that Allah had replaced it with something better, namely "Al-Salamu Alaykum" (Peace be upon you)?
Al-Tabarani and Al-Bayhaqi reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Umayr ibn Wahb when he came to Medina intending to kill him: "Allah has honored us above your greeting, and has made our greeting the greeting of the people of Paradise, which is 'Peace' (Al-Salam)." Umayr replied, "Indeed, your acquaintance with it is recent." Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Allah has exchanged it for something better."
