How can intentions be varied for a single act, such as reading the Qur’an, and must one seek reward for every act, and what are the consequences of forgetting to seek reward?

A sound intention is the foundation of a servant's happiness and salvation, and it rests on three pillars: the motive (knowledge), the will (intention), and the ability (action). To achieve a sound intention, the motive for the action must be legitimate and praiseworthy in the sight of Allah, and the intention must remain sincere for Allah Almighty, without any polytheism. Multiple sound motives may exist for a single action, which multiplies the reward, and the more these motives are linked to certainty and faith, the greater the action becomes in the sight of Allah. Seeking Allah's pleasure (al-ihtisab) is synonymous with sincerity, meaning that the intention is solely for Allah, without seeking people's approval or any other purpose that contradicts sincerity.
