As for promoting mixed-gender events, the reason for the prohibition is that it is an invitation to something forbidden or that often leads to it. The participant or observer of mixed-gender interaction falls into the forbidden. If the mixing were secondary and unintended, such as when games are usually not mixed-gender, then promoting it would be permissible.
