Is it permissible to recite Ruqyah on medicine to benefit from both, and what is the ruling on this if the medicine contains alcohol?

There is no evidence to prohibit reading Qur'an and supplications over water and food with the intention of ruqyah (exorcism). Some scholars, such as Ibn al-Qayyim, have done this. If it is permissible to read over water, then it is permissible over permissible drinks and medicines. As for medicines that contain alcohol in consumed proportions necessitated by manufacturing and for which there is no alternative, it is permissible to use them and for a just doctor to prescribe them, just as it is permissible to use alcohol as an external disinfectant. If the use of these medicines is permissible, then reading ruqyah over them before use is not forbidden, although purity is preferable.
