Is touching the Kaaba for blessings an innovation (bid‘ah)? And does citing the verse: "Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed" justify touching the Kaaba? And how can one combine clarifying the truth to people with avoiding argumentation?

It is not permissible to wipe against the walls of the Kaaba except for the two Yemeni corners (Al-Rukn Al-Yamani), because this has not been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or from the pious predecessors. The four Imams are in agreement on this. Similarly, one should not kiss or touch the Maqam Ibrahim (Station of Abraham), for it is an innovation (bid'ah). One should not dispute with someone who is ignorant of the Sunnah, unless there is a strong benefit in clarifying the truth, as Malik disliked disputing in matters of knowledge. A Muslim must not speak about what he does not know.
