What is the interpretation of the noble verse (And [by] the star when it descends)? And can what the questioner saw of falling stars be considered a sign of Laylat al-Qadr or an interpretation of the verse?

Scholars have differed in their interpretation of "the star" (An-Najm) in the verse (Surah An-Najm 53:1): "By the star when it descends" (Wa an-najmi idha hawa). Some of their interpretations include: the Pleiades (Thurayya), or what the devils are pelted with from the stars, or the Qur'an when it was revealed in parts, or all the stars in the sky, or the planet Venus. The meaning of "hawa" (descends/falls) varies depending on the interpretation of "An-Najm," thus it could mean "set" or "descended" or "scattered on the Day of Judgment." None of the scholars have connected this verse to Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree). As for what the questioner saw in terms of phenomena, Allah knows best about it; it could be natural or an illusion. The most important thing during these nights is to seize the opportunity by devoting oneself to worship and sincerity to Allah Almighty.
