If a sane, non-coerced person utters the word of divorce, it takes effect, whether they intended it or not, and whether the wife was present or absent. Accordingly, the statement "You are divorced twice" effectuates two divorces, and the wife can be taken back (reconciled with) if these divorces are not the third. One is warned against toying with divorce, for an explicit divorce takes effect whether the husband is serious or joking.
