Is the speech in the following verses considered shirk (polytheism): "And hasten with repentance upon servants who supplicate through prayer upon Muhammad; Perhaps from you, acceptance for a Habashi who greets you, O Muhammad; Perhaps from you, acceptance for all of us who greet you, O Muhammad"?

Exaggeration concerning prophets and saints, and supplicating to them, or seeking their aid, is polytheism (shirk) that contradicts monotheism (Tawhid), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Beware of exaggeration in religion, for indeed, those before you were destroyed by exaggeration in religion." As for seeking intercession with Allah through righteous deeds, such as sending prayers upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, it is permissible and is among the means of having prayers answered. However, seeking the acceptance of deeds from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is polytheism; because acceptance and rejection belong to Allah alone, as He, the Almighty, says: "And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants." Therefore, supplicating to other than Allah concerning matters that none but Allah can control is polytheism.
