Sexual intercourse that necessitates ghusl (ritual bath) is defined by the complete insertion of the glans into the vagina. The evidence for this comes from prophetic hadiths, such as his (peace be upon him) saying: "When he sits between her four parts and then exerts himself, ghusl becomes obligatory upon him," and his saying: "When he sits between her four parts and the two circumcised parts meet, ghusl becomes obligatory." "The two circumcised parts meeting" means the complete concealment of the glans within the vagina, which scholars refer to as "alignment." Therefore, ghusl is not obligatory unless the glans is completely concealed.
