How do I deal with my parents who verbally abuse me by saying, "O you who claim 'Allah said' and 'the Messenger said'," whenever I make a mistake regarding religious matters or inquire about them, knowing that this did not happen before my commitment [to religious practice], and they interrupt me if signs of distress appear on my face?

You must continue to seek sacred knowledge, be gentle with your parents, treat them with kindness, show them respect and appreciation by frequently praising them and supplicating for them, make them feel that your uprightness has increased your dutifulness towards them, strive hard in your studies, and do what pleases them within the bounds of Islamic law, while persistently supplicating that Allah may make them pleased with you.
