How can one get rid of weakness of faith and doubt in religion, despite performing acts of worship and religious duties, while feeling that sins and transgressions surround the individual and affect their concentration and devotion in worship?
Sincere love for Allah necessitates loving the Prophet (peace be upon him) and following his Sunnah, his law, and his morals, as Allah Almighty says: "Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you'." A person fluctuates between periods of activity and lethargy. The Prophet (peace be upon him) guided us to utilize times of activity in obedience and not to completely cease good deeds during periods of lethargy, by focusing on obligatory acts and avoiding prohibitions. He said: "Indeed, for every deed there is an initial zeal, and for every zeal there is a period of inactivity. So, whoever's inactivity is in accordance with my Sunnah has succeeded, and whoever's inactivity is otherwise has perished." It is advised to maintain obligatory acts and as many voluntary acts as one can, and to utilize times of activity to increase in obedience, as in the Hadith: "My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have enjoined upon him. And My servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary deeds until I love him." Likewise, prohibited acts must be avoided, as he said: "What I have forbidden for you, avoid; and what I have commanded you to do, do as much of it as you can." Among what helps with this are keeping company with the righteous, listening to admonitions, and frequent supplication.
