Can I recite the Quran using my mother’s Mushaf and use her prayer beads with the intention that the reward reaches her? And are these considered ongoing charity for her? And is it permissible to eat food she bought before her death and count the reward for her? And did the anesthesia alleviate the throes of death for her, and did she feel the pain of our absence, and does she feel our longing or grieve that our lives are proceeding normally?

We ask God to have mercy on your mother and raise her status. It is hoped that the reward for your recitation from her Qur’an will reach her if she acquired it for the sake of God, for every good deed she caused and from which someone benefited after her death will have its reward attributed to her.

As for the deceased's awareness of their family's condition, this is among the matters of the unseen. Texts indicate that the deeds of the living are presented to the dead, so they rejoice at good and grieve at evil. They also indicate that the souls of believers meet, visit each other, and recall memories, and that the deceased recognizes the visit and greeting of the living.

God knows best the reality of the effect of medical anesthesia on the pangs of death, and no legal ruling is derived from it.
