The question

Does intentionally inhaling the scent of Tide detergent until it reaches the throat necessitate making up the day in Ramadan? And does swallowing saliva that was on the tip of the mouth necessitate making up the day? What is the cure for fasting-related obsessive thoughts?

The answer

Among the ways to overcome waswas (whispers/obsessive thoughts) are to ignore them, distract oneself from them, and seek Allah's help. Smelling the scent of cleaning agents does not invalidate the fast, nor does unintentionally swallowing parts of them, due to the hardship involved. Swallowing saliva that has not left the mouth does not invalidate the fast; however, if it reaches the tip of the mouth from the outside and is then swallowed, it does invalidate it. When in doubt about saliva or anything else reaching the internal cavity, the fast is presumed valid, because certainty is not removed by doubt. And whoever was ignorant of the things that invalidate the fast, their fast is valid.
