Why is no response given to those who permit dealing with usury for acquiring homes, claiming necessity? And what are the cases of necessity that make that permissible?
Usury is one of the greatest sins, and its prohibition is definitive in the Quran and . It is not permissible to be lenient in declaring it permissible. The necessity that allows borrowing with usury is when a person reaches a point where, if they do not engage in it, they will perish or come close to perishing. Buying a house does not fall under this necessity, as a person can be a tenant or have a non-luxurious home. The situation that permits borrowing with usury for the sake of housing is very rare and hardly ever occurs. In conclusion, borrowing with usury is definitively forbidden and is not permissible except in cases of extreme necessity, which is estimated accordingly. Owning a home is not considered one of these necessities as long as a person finds housing that shelters them, even by renting, without unbearable hardship.
