How is manufactured gold containing bezels (stones) bought and sold?

It is permissible to buy and sell manufactured gold that contains gemstones, whether by removing the gemstones and estimating their price, or by leaving them. The custom (عرف) is the determinant in this matter. If people agree to sell the gemstones at the price of gold, there is no need to separate them. However, when selling gold for gold, the gemstones must be removed and the gold weighed in its pure form, due to the condition of equality, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do not sell gold for gold unless it is like for like."
