Is divorce better for the husband and the infant, in the event that marital cohabitation is impossible?

Divorce is permissible when needed, and it may be better for both spouses and children. However, do not rush to divorce your wife, and strive to mend what is between you. Be patient, for married life requires patience, overlooking mistakes, and balancing good and bad aspects. Allah the Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another."
