1) Is it a condition that the reciter of the Qur’an mentioned in the Hadith be a حافظ (one who has memorized it), or is it sufficient for him to be a reciter who has not memorized it? 2) To obtain the great reward mentioned in the Hadith, is merely reciting the Qur’an sufficient, or must the recitation be accompanied by action and contemplation? 3) Is the intended meaning of recitation in the Hadith that it be at night, or does the virtue of the Hadith also include whoever recites the Qur’an during the day?
The "companion of the Qur'an" is one who is constantly devoted to it with zeal and care. This is achieved through memorization, recitation, contemplation, and acting upon it. If a person combines these qualities, they attain a great distinction and status. Al-Tibi, in Al-Mishkat, states that the degrees mentioned in the Hadith refer to the honor a servant receives according to their status in memorization and recitation. In another interpretation, he suggests that the degrees a servant earns through the verses encompass all of them. In this case, the recitation on the Day of Judgment will be proportional to one's actions, and the perfection of this will be for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, followed by the Ummah after him, according to their ranks and statuses in religion.
