What is the ruling on reading the Holy Quran in the dark?
There is no harm in reading the Qur’an in the dark; in fact, darkness might even aid in contemplation. The righteous predecessors used to read the Qur’an in their homes and mosques, which at that time did not have lamps, as was narrated by Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her. And as Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen pointed out, praying in the dark was the norm during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
