If a man swears by triple divorce to separate from his wife when his son arrives, this is a conditional divorce that takes effect upon the occurrence of the condition—the son's arrival. This is the view of the majority of scholars. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds the view that an expiation for an oath (kaffarat ) is required if he did not intend divorce, or a single divorce if he did intend it.
