What is the ruling on saying: "In the name of Allah, and with the blessings of Allah" before eating?

There is a weak hadith reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding supplicating for blessings before eating. It is also reported from Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, that he would supplicate before eating: "In the name of Allah, O Allah, bless for us what You have provided us."

So, if a person supplicates before eating, after saying "Bismillah," with "O Allah, bless for us what You have provided us," it is permissible. However, it is preferable to delay this supplication until after eating. As for "wa 'ala barakatillah" (and upon the blessings of Allah), it has not been reported from any of the scholars.
