What is the ruling on placing a picture of an ordinary human body with a circle on its face containing the name of a Tabi'i (successor to the companions) or a scholar, as an indication of him? And does this fall under the forbidden depiction of Tabi'in and scholars? And does the same ruling apply to the Companions and Prophets?

The question relates to two matters: digital images, and writing the name of a Companion or scholar on them. Digital images are not included in the prohibited photography because they have no tangible reality, and blurring the facial features in them removes the prohibition. As for writing the name of a Companion or scholar on an image, it is permissible if the post relates to their biography or virtues. It is forbidden if it involves idle talk, tampering, or anything not approved by the Sharia (definition), because that is considered a degradation. And it is better to avoid writing the name on the image.
