Is it permissible to pray while having a desire to pass wind without repelling it?

Whoever intends to pray and needs to pass gas should first relieve himself, so that it does not distract him from humility (khushu') in prayer. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "No prayer should be offered in the presence of food, nor when one is resisting the two impurities (al-akhbathayn)" narrated by Muslim. The meaning of "al-akhbathayn" includes gas. If one prays while resisting the urge to pass gas, his prayer is disliked due to the diminished humility, but it is valid and does not need to be repeated. However, if the urge to pass gas occurs during the prayer and does not prevent its completion, then there is no dislike, and the prayer is valid.
