This competition is a form of betting and gambling, which is not permissible according to the majority of scholars, but it is permissible according to Ibn Taymiyyah and those who agree with him. Sheikh al-Islam holds the view that legitimate competitions are permissible, citing as evidence the of Abu Bakr when he bet on the victory of the Romans over the Persians, because jihad is waged either by knowledge or by weapons.
