How can Mu'awiya be promised Paradise, when he was a killer and mutilated the body of Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, and the Messenger forbade mutilation, knowing that he assassinated many from the household of the Messenger and his companions?

It has not been proven that Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq was killed by Mu'awiyah; rather, it is well-known that Mu'awiyah ibn Hudayj killed him. Many of the historical narrations circulated about the Umayyads, and Mu'awiyah in particular, contain falsehoods and fabrications resulting from political and sectarian disputes and attacks on Islam, such as accusing Mu'awiyah of cursing Ali or killing his household, which are baseless claims. The correct history confirms Mu'awiyah's respect and appreciation for Ali and his household, and establishes his virtue and good conduct. Mu'awiyah is not among the Ten Promised Paradise, nor has any authentic hadith been reported stating that he is among the people of Paradise. Many hadiths have been reported regarding his virtue, most of which are fabricated or false, and some are close (to being fabricated). Entry into Paradise is not exclusive to the infallible, but for those whose scales are heavy (with good deeds). It is not permissible to disregard Mu'awiyah's virtue for mistakes he committed, for if he strove and was correct, he has two rewards, and if he erred, he has one reward. And if they were sins, they are minor compared to his good deeds.
