Was Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan among those promised Paradise, and what is the proof of that?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Mu'awiyah is not among the ten promised Paradise, and no authentic hadith has been narrated confirming that he is among the people of Paradise. Many hadith have been narrated regarding his virtues, most of which are fabricated or false, and some are close to authentic, such as: "O Allah, teach him the Book and reckoning and protect him from punishment" (weak), and "O Allah, make him a guide, rightly guided, and guide through him" (graded hasan by Al-Tirmidhi and sahih by Al-Albani), and the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to Abu Bakr and Umar concerning Mu'awiyah: "Involve him in your affairs, for he is strong and trustworthy." Mu'awiyah is a great companion and a scribe of revelation and a mujahid in the way of Allah. His companionship with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, is sufficient virtue for him.
