What is the ruling regarding a 13-year-old girl who did not fast Ramadan while she was menstruating?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Whoever deliberately breaks their fast during Ramadan must make up for it (qada') and repent. Ignorance of the obligation to fast is not an excuse for the qada' to be waived, even if one is a recent convert to Islam or grew up far from Muslims. This is the view of the majority of jurists. Mothers should teach their daughters the religious rulings pertinent to them, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire."
