Is it permissible for the husband to travel seeking Islamic knowledge for an indefinite period, leaving behind his wife and three children who have no provider other than him, especially since the wife knows she cannot bear the separation or shoulder the responsibility of the children alone?

It is the wife's right upon her husband that he not be absent from her for more than six months without an excuse. It is preferable for him to seek knowledge in his own country, or to travel with his wife and children. It is not permissible for him to travel and leave his children without financial support or care, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "It is sufficient sin for a man to neglect those he is responsible to support." The wife's care for her children is among the greatest deeds, and the foundation of the relationship between spouses is affection, mercy, and understanding.
