Is it permissible to donate or receive organs, given the absence of an explicit prohibition in the Quran?

It is permissible to transfer an organ from one place in a person's body to another place in their body. It is also permissible to transfer an organ from one person's body to another person's body if it regenerates automatically. It is permissible to benefit from a part of an organ removed due to illness for another person. However, it is forbidden to transfer a life-sustaining organ from a living person to another person, just as it is forbidden to transfer an organ from a living person if its removal would disable an essential function in their life. It is permissible to transfer an organ from a deceased person to a living person whose life depends on that organ or on the soundness of an essential function therein, provided there is permission from the deceased or their heirs, or the approval of the Muslim ruler. The transfer must not involve selling the organ.
