Is it possible that the fatwa against killing snakes in homes for three days could lead to a person's death, and do the hadiths mentioned in this regard refer to warning the snake three consecutive times, rather than three days, and is this specific to the time of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace?

The purified Prophetic Sunnah states that it is permissible to kill snakes. Some narrations command killing them outright, while others command warning them for three days or three times, and if they reappear after that, they are to be killed.

Scholars have differed regarding the meaning of repeating the warning three times; some say three times, and others say three days. Ibn al-Arabi preferred that the warning be given three times in a single instance.

If a snake appears, it should be warned. If it flees, then nothing further is done. If it does not flee, the warning is repeated. If it then flees, well and good. If it does not, the warning is repeated three times. If it then flees and disappears, fine; otherwise, it is to be killed.

Snakes are of two types:

1. Original snake: This type is to be killed immediately without warning or delay. Its characteristic signs are being "cut-tailed" (abtar) or having "two white stripes" (dhū al-ṭufyatayn), based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Kill the abtar and the dhū al-ṭufyatayn."

2. Jinn that has taken its form: This type is not to be killed. Instead, it is warned. This warning reveals its true nature. If it persists, it is a sign that it is not a believer, or that it is one of the original snakes.

And Allah knows best.
