Does revelation descend upon the heart of the Messenger (peace be upon him) without his hearing it, only?

The revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, occurred in various forms. Sometimes he would hear it like the ringing of a bell, and at other times the angel would appear to him in the form of a man and speak to him. These were intense experiences for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Scholars have agreed that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, received the Qur’an through the Angel Gabriel, peace be upon him, and not through inspiration or dreams. The verses that indicate the Qur’an descending upon his heart mean that its meanings reached his heart after he heard them from the Angel.
