What is the ruling on giving zakat to a deserving person, then the recipient benefits from it by giving a gift to someone from the Ahl al-Bayt?

It is not permissible to give zakat to the household of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt). However, if a poor person is given zakat due to their poverty and need, and then they gift a portion of it to Ahl al-Bayt, there is no harm for Ahl al-Bayt in accepting it, because it has transformed from the status of zakat to the status of a gift. This is evidenced by the action of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in accepting the meat from Barirah, which was charity for her, and his saying: "It is charity for her, and a gift for us." This indicates that the prohibition applies to the description (of being zakat) and not to the substance itself.
