Is a woman in puerperium required to pray and fast, and is intercourse with her husband permissible, if the bleeding stops after 15 days, but she has not completed forty days, and she finds a yellowish discharge after a dryness that lasted two hours?

The maximum period for post-natal bleeding (nifas) is forty days. If a woman experiences purity before the forty days, she should perform ghusl (ritual bath) and pray, because there is no minimum limit for nifas. Yellowish discharge (sufra) and brownish discharge (kudra) during the forty-day period are considered nifas. If the bleeding or the yellowish/brownish discharge continues, the woman remains in a state of nifas; she does not pray, nor fast, nor does her husband approach her until she sees purity, indicated by one of two signs: dryness (jufuf) or the white discharge (al-qassah al-bayda'). If she sees purity, even if briefly, she should perform ghusl and pray. If the blood, yellowish discharge, or brownish discharge returns within the forty-day period, she reverts to the state of nifas.
