The answer

If a woman in postpartum bleeding (nifas) becomes pure before forty days, she must perform ghusl (ritual bath), pray, and fast, and she becomes permissible for her husband. If the bleeding returns before forty days, she should stop praying and fasting, and she remains forbidden to her husband until she becomes pure or completes forty days. Any bleeding that continues after forty days is considered dysfunctional bleeding (dam fasad) and does not prevent her from praying or fasting. She should pray, fast, and is permissible for her husband, just like a woman with irregular bleeding (mustahadah), with the obligation to cleanse herself, take precautions, and perform ablution (wudu) for each prayer, unless it is her regular menstrual period, in which case she should stop praying and fasting and is forbidden to her husband.
